Check out this new Southside retail development, proposed for the old Chai Market site
Birmingham’s Southside is the side you should be in. A new retail development as a hub for restaurants and businesses may be coming to town. It’s taking over what used to be the home of a beloved Bham restaurant and we know all the details.
Giving life to an old home
In March 2020, Yummefy’s old home, called Chai Market and Yum Yai Thai restaurant, was destroyed in a fire. After the fire, owners Sam and Rose Pokhrel rebranded and moved to The Waites. Now, this lot that was the home to Chai Market is being given new life. According to Jack Little of Red Rock Realty who is leasing the proposed development for the owners, the architect of the retail development, Krumdieck Architecture, is working with Birmingham’s Design Review Committee for approval of the developed renderings.
This Southside retail development will have a little bit of everything
According to Birmingham Business Journal, this proposed development at the corner of Seventh Avenue South and 22nd St. South is offering convenience with a capital “C”. The building on an approximately 6,600 square-foot piece of land will have suites from around 1,300 square feet to a little over 2,000 square feet each. In this multi-use building, Birmingham will be able to enjoy:
- Coffee shops
- Nail parlors
- Restaurants
- Salons
- Small offices
Tenants are currently being recruited. So if you know of a business you’d love to see in Southside, now’s the time to say something!
