Kinky Boots

Kinky Boots is a story of acceptance—accepting yourself and accepting others for who they are. Throughout the plot, the show teaches the importance of kindness, understanding and friendship.

Here’s a quick rundown of the plot if you’ve never heard of Kinky Boots before:

Main character Charlie Price reluctantly inherits his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of a good pair of stilettos who turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie.

As they work to save the factory, the unlikely duo finds that they have more in common than they ever thought possible. They discover that, when you change your mind about someone, your whole world can change.

Kinky Boots features a Tony Award-winning score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper and a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. It’s safe to say you don’t want to miss this!

The show is incredible. It’s full of fun costumes and lights, but the best thing about it is the beautiful story underneath. I think people will be shocked that the story of the show gets as deep and as personal as it actually does.

Community conversations

Immediately following every Thursday show (June 9, 16 and 23), Red Mountain Theatre is partnering with Central Alabama Pride, Birmingham AIDS Outreach, Magic City Wellness Center and Magic City Acceptance Academy to allow the audience to dig a little deeper into what they just experienced.

During this time, the audience will hear from and may ask questions of the show’s actors, staff and community leaders. Bring your questions and comments and let’s have a community conversation!
