Redevelopment of historic Webb Building now underway, opening Spring 2023 [Photos]

Redevelopment of the historic Webb Building in Downtown Birmingham has begun, made possible by a partnership between Ladd Real Estate, ARC Realty, Stewart Perry and David Baker Architects. Set to open in Spring 2023, the redeveloped building will bring six airy, modern apartment residences with ground floor retail on the corner of 2nd Avenue North and 20th Street.

Redevelopment of Webb Building Begins

Redevelopment has officially begun on the Webb Building, a structure located on the southwest corner of 20th Street and 2nd Avenue North. The project was first reported by Bham Now in 2020, when Birmingham’s Design Review Committee approved redevelopment plans for the historic building. The redevelopment includes the Webb Building as well as the neighboring Colorado Loan Co. Building.

The redevelopment will see the shell of the original 19th century structure unearthed and enhanced, allowing for the building to be filled with six modern apartment residences and first floor retail that will be carefully curated.

One of Birmingham’s Oldest Buildings

Fun fact: The Webb Building is one of the oldest standing buildings in Birmingham! Built in 1871, the Webb Building is rumored to be the first 3-story brick building in downtown Birmingham. Over the years, the structure has housed barbershops, cigar shops, clothing stores, restaurants and even an old-fashioned saloon.
