Behind the biz
Dontez and Jamie Heard are the cool couple behind Asthetik—local photo studio and event space in Birmingham. With Dontez being a photographer for over a decade and Jamie being a creative director and editorial stylist, this husband-wife duo knows a thing or two about curating a space.
They started out hosting small events like photoshoots out of their own home, eventually learning that they needed to expand in order to separate work from their living space.
Luckily, Asthetik’s downtown location checked off all of their must-have amenities. With exposed brick, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, they knew it would be the perfect venue for their unique business.
“We want to be able to provide a space and resource to other creatives like ourselves that inspire and empower their creativity. [Our] space can be transformed from a blank canvas, allowing others to create according to their visual needs.”

What’s extra special is that they’ve been able to inspire other aspiring business owners in the community with what they’ve learned along the way.
“Although we feel we still have a lot to learn, it’s amazing the amount of calls and emails we get from others that look to us for inspiration. People feel comfortable asking us for advice, tips and wanting to know how we did it. The fact that they don’t know us personally, but feel comfortable to come to us, lets us know that we are doing something right.”

Take your event to the next level
At this boutique venue, each room holds a new opportunity to let your creativity shine. When you book your event or studio time with Asthetik, you have access to each room in the building—including the furnishings.
For that picture perfect shot or a beautifully-lit daytime event—the main room is an ideal spot. There’s abundant natural lighting and exposed brick for a great neutral background. Plus, if you have a certain theme in mind for your event, colored backdrops can be provided.
Want music to hype up your guests but would love to save money on a DJ? The venue is equipped with a sound system that connects to your phone. For those mid-photoshoot touch ups, Asthetik also provides guests with a professional makeup station.
Take a walk up the spiral staircase and you’ll be met with a space for the mirror selfies of your dreams, complete with a green wall and huge gold mirrors.
Adjacent to the main room, another bright room offers controlled lighting and a neutral canvas wall, perfect for receptions and photoshoots.
Here you’ll have access to a modern prep kitchen, complete with a fridge, sink and island table. Plus, Asthetik can set up a curtain to hide the kitchen from view if you’d like to work behind the scenes.
Keep in mind—the rooms as you see them above are a blank canvas for your event. Each space can be redesigned and decorated to make your special occasion magical.

Get Hitched
Going to Asthetik and you’re going to get married? Yeah, you read that right. It’s no secret that countless weddings had to get canceled due to the pandemic. As a solution, Jamie and Dontez decided to offer an extra-special option for intimate weddings—the Get Hitched package.
The Heard’s describe this highly requested booking as a classier version of Vegas-style elopements. Able to accommodate up to 50 guests, Get Hitched packages include everything you need for your perfect day:
- cocktail hour
- a champagne toast
- gorgeous decor for the ceremony
- a beautiful one-tier cake
- and of course, the officiant
All you have to do is invite the guests and show up to the party! The package includes 20 guests, but can accommodate up to 50 for an additional fee.
In the future, the Asthetik team plans on amping up this package, so stay tuned for exciting upgrades.
