The folks at the TumTum Tree Foundation live by one simple mission statement, and that’s to enrich the lives of children in Alabama who face life-altering or life-threatening illnesses. And, it’s safe to say they’re bringing it to fruition—they’ve donated over $15M to Alabama children’s charities in the last 32 years.

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably curious where they got their whimsical name from. The foundation adopted “TumTum Tree” from Lewis Carroll’s poem, Jabberwocky.

Executive Director Ashley Blomeyer shared that the name is a symbolic representation of their mission. Their foundation provides Alabama children with a beacon of hope, and a respite from their daily challenges, safely beneath their own TumTum trees (just like in the poem).

What’s better than one local leader devoting her time and energy to serving Alabama children? Well, two local leaders paving the way, of course!

That’s where Lauren Goldasich, owner and area developer of the Orangetheory Fitness studios in Alabama, comes in. Lauren and her family have always been passionate supporters of TumTum and this April, Orangetheory Fitness will sponsor the 5K, 10K and 1-mile fun run.

“Lauren Goldasich has been a long-time TumTum supporter/friend and her husband Dennis is on the TumTum Tree Foundation board. Lauren and Dennis are passionate supporters and approached us with the idea in 2019. The collaboration seemed like a great way to get others in the community involved in TumTum who might not know about us. We could not be more excited to see Lauren’s vision come to fruition on April 24.”

A meaningful partnership

Lauren shared that this partnership is so important to her because the goals align so closely with those of her eight Orangetheory studios across Alabama. This presents an opportunity for members to be involved in the community, and become a part of something bigger than themselves.

It also serves as an incredible reminder how blessed the members are to be healthy and able to use their bodies in this way—both inside and outside of the studio.

“The vision of our Orangetheory Fitness team is to give back to the surrounding community through specific serve projects and charitable events. All eight of our studio locations have at least one beneficiary located in their city.

By 2024, the TumTum Tree 10k will raise $120,000 annually. That is more life enrichment for those precious children. At Orangetheory Fitness, we create a community inside a community. As a ‘fitfam’ doing something together that’s bigger than we could do on our own deepens our bond and creates really special moments.”
