Now that we’re into April, we’re looking for new spots to enjoy as the weather gets warmer. Among these are new Tex Mex spots, a new bar and beauty store to get you ready for those patio hangs. Plus, we’re welcoming a classic back to Birmingham! Find out the much-anticipated details about the re-opening of Sam’s Super Samwiches here.
1. Besito’s Mexican Kitchen | Greystone
We’ll never say no to Mexican food. This new 280 spot has us dreaming of their Camarones ala diabla and their Papas Mexicanas, pictured above. Best of all, this new spot is family-owned, so you know you’re supporting a place with authentic and fresh Mexican food with Tex Mex classics.
Also, try their Aguas frescas, made daily for a refreshing beverage that completes the perfect spring day.
2. Beauty and Beyond | Hoover
If you’re looking to glow up for the summer, you need to check out Beauty and Beyond. They offer hair products, synthetic hair, clothes, makeup and so much more. Located conveniently on Highway 31, you might have seen this spot already. If you haven’t been, they just celebrated their grand opening on April 2 and are hosting specials to celebrate.
They also have Birmingham’s largest wig selection so if you are in the market, this is the place for you. In addition, they also offer clip in, tape in, and micro tips if you’re looking to add some length. Tag us with your new look!
3. Tha Vibe Bar and Lounge | Downtown
It’s time to catch a vibe, Birmingham, because there’s a new bar in town. Owned by local entrepreneur, Kay Carter, this local spot is serving up unbelievable deals and has a happy hour that you can’t beat, lasting from 5-9PM. Some of their specials include Tha Vibe Signture Drink and Margaritas for only $5 on Mondays, $15 hookahs and a 2 for 1 drink list.
Carter also owns The Nail Nook, one of Birmingham’s first Black-owned nail salons. Be sure to hit up both businesses to support local and host your next get together.

Craving cotton candy but it’s not fair season? Get a taste of freshly spun cotton candy and more at The Spun Cow, now open at The Pizitz. Located right next to Ono Poke, this new spot is hard to miss and is a crowd pleaser.
The Bham Now team got a chance to try it out and it was a hit. Our recs? The Buttered Beer Float. If you ever need a sweet treat in the middle of the work day, you know where to find them. Plus, everything is Instagrammable and so very aesthetically pleasing. Just be sure to give them a tag @thespuncow.
5. Goldfish Swim School | Hoover
Wanting to teach your children how to swim and about water safety before heading to the pool or beach this summer? Check out Goldfish Swim School, now open at The Grove in Hoover. With lessons for all ages and skill levels, Goldfish makes it easy. Even take a family class or technique clinic for stronger swimmers.
Each location is franchised, so they’re locally owned. Hoover’s location is owned by Erik Schatz and was developed by Crawford Square Real Estate. We’re excited to see them make a difference and build water confidence here in Birmingham.
Get the scoop on the re-opening of Sam’s Super Samwiches
Many of us were heartbroken when Sam’s Super Samwiches founder Sammy Graphos passed away. Shortly thereafter, the beloved restaurant lost its longtime lease—and the future of Sam’s Super Samwiches seemed grim. Thankfully, brighter days are ahead—the team recently reopened Sam’s in a new location, honoring the late Sammy Graphos.
Many waited for the opening day to arrive and at last, we finally have it. They have just announced May 2 as the re-opening of Sam’s Super Samwiches.
“We apologize for all the delays, but we are thrilled to announce our new official opening date on May 2nd! It has been very hard to get parts shipped recently, and due to this and some unforeseen setbacks, we have had to push our opening date back a month…no one wants a superdog all the way more than us. And no matter what, we will see y’all on May 2nd!!!”-Sam’s Super Samwiches, Instagram
