If you’re a football fan, it’s time to celebrate ๐Ÿ•บ. After a 35 year hiatus, the USFL is relaunching and the Birmingham Stallions are on the roster. Keep reading for more on their big return.

Time for a touchdown

The Stallions’ are stampeding their way into Bham in Spring of 2022. The USFL is back on the football scene for the first time since 1986. Originally, the USFL consisted of 12 teams. It was founded in 1982 and eventually shut down due to scheduling conflicts with the NFL fall season. Joining the Birmingham Stallions are 7 teams: the Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars, Pittsburg Maulers, Houston Gamblers, New Orleans Breakers and the Tampa Bay Bandits. Starting in mid-April and ending around mid-June, this season will be an exciting time for every sports lover.

Host with the most

Although there hasn’t been an official announcement, rumor has it that the league will host all of their 2022 season games in Birmingham. It’ll be thrilling if we get to show off the magic Birmingham has to offer. The schedule will consist of 10 games followed by semifinals between the top two teams. Once the division champions are crowned, they will face off in a final championship.

This has been a long time coming for our city. Previously in Bham Now we reported that several groups have committed monies toward the $3.6M goal includingย Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau,ย City of Birmingham and Jefferson County Commission.ย The three entities raised $3 million. The BJCC chipped in the remaining amount to meet the $3.6 million goal,ย according to al.com.
