I love chicken and waffles like a deer loves berries (read: a lot). It is the perfect union of sweet and savory. Whether you want spicy syrup or tenders instead of wings, these 5 places will fill your tummy with sweet delicious vibes.
1. FIVE Birmingham

First up, we have FIVE Birmingham. On Saturdays and Sundays, they have their Jazz Brunch on the weekends from 10am-3pm. Get Ms. Anne’s Chicken and Waffles. It comes with a honey walnut waffle, whipped butter, maple syrup and two pieces of fried chicken.
- Hours: Monday-Wednesday: Closed; Thursday: 4-9pm; Friday: 4-11pm; Saturday: 10am-3pm (Brunch), 4pm-11pm; Sunday 10am-3pm (Brunch), 4pm-9pm
2. Ruby Sunshine

Next, we have Ruby Sunshine. This is technically cheating because this is only supposed to be about chicken and waffles. However, one bite of their Sweet Heat Chicken and French Toast bites, and you’ll let it slide too.
The dish is fried chicken and fresh strawberries tossed in Mike’s Hot Honey Glaze served over French toast bites. Yea. I told you.
- Location: 1017 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, AL 35209
- Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30am-2pm; Saturday and Sunday 7:30am-3pm
3. John’s City Diner

With John’s City Diner, you get 2 options when it comes to your chicken and waffles fix.
The Standard Chicken and Waffles is more of what you’re used to. Standard Chicken and Waffles comes with a cheddar cheese waffle, fried chicken and balsamic spiked maple syrup. Simple enough, right?
Things get a little crazy with their Hangover Chicken and Waffles. This comes with a smoked bacon and cheddar waffle, friend chicken, Alabama breakfast sausage gravy and a local farm egg. That’s the good stuff right there.
- Hours: Sunday-Wednesday: Closed; Thursday and Friday: 11am-2:30pm, 5-8:40pm
If you go, don’t forget to take a picture in front of the famous mural.
4. Metro Diner

Metro Diner takes you to another place with their chicken and waffles. They literally give you half a chicken. I kid you not. It is actually advertised as half a chicken. But wait, that’s only half of the equation.
Along with half of a bird, you get a delicious Belgian waffle served with their iconic strawberry butter. To top it all off, they serve it with sweet and spicy syrup.
Trussville:
- Hours: 7 days a week: 8am-8pm
Inverness Plaza:
- Hours: 7 days a week: 9am-8pm
5. Big Bad Breakfast

Big Bad Breakfast’s food is as delicious as their name is intimidating. Prepare yourself for a chicken and waffle so good, it’ll take your lunch money and leave you comatose on the couch for about an hour.
If this sounds like your idea of a Sunday fun-day, don’t hesitate to go for National Chicken and Waffle day.
Greystone:

6. Yo Mama’s

Last but certainly not least, we have Yo Mama’s. Their chicken and waffles are so good, I ate them before I could take a picture. In addition to their juicy chicken and fluffy waffle, you have a choice between their homemade syrup and maple syrup. Either choice you make is a great one.
- Location: 2328 2nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL, 35203
- Hours: Monday-Friday: 10:30am-2:30pm, Saturday and Sunday: Closed
