Landing reveals HQ, contributes over $1M to Birmingham tech space

Landing, the revolutionary apartment service, hosted a community event to exhibit their new headquarters in downtown Birmingham today. They also announced a major contribution to the city’s tech ecosystem and a new fellowship program.

Last month, the company announced their plan to bring HQ to Birmingham, along with 800+ jobs. Today, Governor Ivey, Mayor Woodfin and other state officials joined Landing CEO and Founder Bill Smith in celebrating the new headquarters.

Landing’s relocation to Birmingham will change the lives of over 800+ Alabama families, in addition to building the growing tech scene.

Governor Ivey is thrilled to see the tech company set up shop in Birmingham, and feels it reinstates the message that Alabamians as a whole are focused on driving innovation and opportunity.

A big gift: $1M contribution to Birmingham tech space

Landing’s bringing even more than those 800+ jobs to town. The company is also making a $1M investment in Birmingham’s tech ecosystem, which will contribute to the continued growth of the city’s flourishing technology and innovation community.

Smith reflected on the exponential growth he’s seen in Birmingham’s technology sector over the last 5 years, and said that the investment would help streamline this progress while attracting top talent to The Magic City.

He emphasized the importance of building a system of multiple successful and growing technology companies, so that prospective employees and innovators in tech will recognize Birmingham as the place to be.

But wait, there’s more

Landing also announced their namesake “Landing Fellows” program. The program is a two-year, advanced fellowship program geared toward early career applicants, recent grads and career changers. Fellows will work full-time at Landing’s HQ to gain firsthand exposure and training in the rapidly developing tech world.

Smith hopes that Landing Fellows will then go on to build their own technology company, or join another one in its early stages. Recruitment efforts for the Fellows will be focused in the state of Alabama, as well as minority-serving institutions throughout the Southeast.

The Landing team got a shout-out from Bill Smith, who credited them for making all of this possible. As Mayor Woodfin put it, they’re bringing some “southern hospitality” to the tech world, and are about to have quite a few new coworkers.
