Regions Tradition donates over $1M to local charities in 2021
Reading time: 2 minutes
The annual Regions Tradition hit a big milestone this year, donating over $1M for local charities at their 2021 Birdies for Charity tournament. Keep reading to learn all the details.
All about the birdies
The goal of the Regions Tradition ‘Birdies for Charity’ is for participating nonprofit organizations to get funding and donations of at least $20 or more and or 5¢ for each birdie made by pledges.
No, a birdie isn’t a baby bird— at least not in this instance. A birdie is one golf stroke better than par, the normal expected score on any given hole.
Participating organizations can keep 100% of their donations and Regions Tradition will completely cover their promotion costs.
The top 5
After a charity reaches $1,000 in donations, Birdies for Charity guarantees 5% of the total amount raised to those charities— which can be up to $100,000.
In addition, the final percentage depends on the amount in the Matching Funds pool.
These 5 charities received more than the guaranteed percentage:
- Parkinson Association of Alabama: 19% match with $19,000
- Magic Moments: 18% match with $18,000
- Fly Right Inc.: 17% match with $17,000
- On River Time: 16% match with $16,000
- United Ability: 16% match with $16,000
A major milestone
After all funds were counted, the Regions Tradition donated more than $20 million to area charities.
“$20 million is a huge number and it has provided a real impact to many wonderful charities in our area; it’s something we’re really proud of and we look forward to helping raise another $20 million”
George Shaw, Tournament Director from press release
