Who says you have to join a gym to get the summer body of your dreams? Don’t get me wrong, Birmingham does have some amazing gyms and studios that will get you right; however, sometimes it’s cool to work out in the fresh air.

Whether you’re not quite ready to rejoin a gym yet or prefer working out in the beautiful weather, we have a few suggestions for where you can go to get in shape this summer.

1. Good People Brewing Company

Good People Brewing Company has brought two of our loves together for a unique outdoor fitness experience: yoga and brews. That’s right! This Birmingham brewery hosts a yoga session every Tuesday. Grab a few friends to join you for a class, and then cool off with an ice-cold beer in the taproom.

2. Birmingham Track Club

Sometimes it gets boring running alone. That’s where the Birmingham Track Club comes in handy. For avid runners looking to push themselves or beginner runners looking to just stay in shape, you’ll easily find your place within this Birmingham non-profit organization.

Not only does the Birmingham Track Club host and participate in huge races, but they also have two different runs every Saturday. There’s the moderate run, which is 3-7 miles, and the long run, which can go anywhere from 8-22 miles.

3. Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Become one with nature with the health and wellness series of classes at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. I already get a sense of peace when I’m walking through the gardens admiring its beauty, so I can only imagine how enhanced that experience becomes with a yoga class in the middle of nature.

4. Pepper Place Market

Pepper Place is a Birmingham staple, and they are always creating unique events to keep us coming back for more. Their Sunset Sweat series has become popular over this last month, and has introduced so many people to the Birmingham fitness scene.

Although the last class in the series is on Tuesday, July 20th, Pepper Place has reassured us that they are hoping to offer more in the near future due to all the love they’ve received. Here are the details for their upcoming class.

5. Railroad Park

Railroad Park just recently announced that their free in-person classes are back, and we couldn’t be any more excited. They have a line-up featuring yoga, zumba and more to get us in shape, while having a bit of fun.

6. True40 Studio Virtual Classes

Sometimes we may not feel like leaving the house at all, but that’s no excuse not to get that workout in. The good news is that we can still support our local fitness community. True40 has a solid selection of on demand workouts that we can do at home. So set up yourself a mini workout area in your backyard or front porch, and enjoy the fresh air while getting your fitness on.

  • Cost: Members get free access. Otherwise, on demand classes are available for $5 a class (24 hour rental) or $25 for a month of all classes.
