Pediatrics residents at UAB know how important it is to participate in community outreach and volunteer work with Birmingham’s children. That’s why so many of them are involved with the “Coat of Arms”, a Community, Outreach, and Advocacy organization. Coat of Arms gives residents the chance to support important causes from health fair drives at schools to toy drives for at-risk children.

Being a part of Coat of Arms is voluntary, but according to Coat of Arms Director, Cassi Smola, most residents get involved. Giving back to the children they care for is that important to them.

In the past, Spring Scrambles have benefitted specific fundraisers. This year, they decided to raise funds for Coat of Arms because of how many initiatives it supports. From increasing literacy to promoting infant safety, your ticket admission gives back to the many important causes of Coat of Arms.

“As a pediatrician, more so than just being a provider, you are truly for an advocate them. Most of our population are people who can’t advocate for themselves, so it becomes a pretty cool journey as a pediatrician.”

Patrick Snyder, Spring Scramble Director
