With more space to spread out, these kinds of properties are becoming increasingly popular as summer draws nearer.
So what kind of lakefront properties are in the Birmingham market? We spoke with Bill Warren and Dana Ellison, two local experts with LAH Real Estate, to find out.

With over 22 years of experience in local real estate, Bill Warren is one of the foremost experts on large commercial properties in the Birmingham area. Although he sells buildings and other commercial properties in the city, Bill specializes in finding recreational land properties for his clients in the Birmingham area. In fact, Bill spends his afternoons prospecting in areas of town where he’d like to find more listings.
Why are people looking for land in Birmingham?
Bill: “Right now, it seems like everybody is looking for land. Interest rates are low, people want space due to the pandemic, there are a lot of factors—but my phone won’t stop ringing!”
What are your clients typically looking for when they buy land in Birmingham?
Bill: “I’ve had clients that are hoping to build a home, and some that just want the land. People love water features—creeks, ponds, rivers, lakes and more. They aren’t making any new land, so I have a lot of clients who are trying to buy before the prices increase.”
What do you enjoy about selling land?
Bill: “My favorite part about selling land is the stories. I love finding out the history of these properties I sell—to quote somebody else, ‘onions are jealous of the layers of information on a piece of property.'”

Why are people looking at lakefront property near Birmingham?
Dana: “A ton of people want to go green and be more self-sufficient by planting their own organic gardens, raising chickens for eggs and just working the land. Since the pandemic essentially made vacations obsolete, I’ve seen a big uptick in clients who just want a place to enjoy the great outdoors.”
Aside from the lake, what are some of the benefits of living at Logan Martin?
Dana: “There is so much to do at Logan Martin. We have a fantastic marina, with great restaurants that you can dock at to grab a bite. Plus, Pell City has a lakeside park with covered pavilions and public boat launches. We’ve had so many outdoor events at the park—in fact, Black Jacket Symphony played here recently.”
