American Airlines adds summer nonstop flight from the Magic City to the Magic Kingdom

Break out your Mickey Mouse ears Birmingham! American Airlines is launching a new summertime  nonstop Saturday service between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) and Orlando International Airport (MCO).

According to a news release from the Birmingham Airport Authority, service between BHM and MCO begins June 5 and will operate on Saturdays through August 14, 2021. Flights will operate on an Embraer E175, equipped with 76 seats in a two-cabin configuration. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at aa.com.

“American Airlines has been a longtime partner of BHM and continues to show its commitment to Birmingham,” said Ronald F. Mathieu, President and CEO of the Birmingham Airport Authority. “We are pleased that our customers will have more options, more connectivity, and more convenience this summer for their travel needs when flying BHM.”

The flight schedule is as follows:

  • Birmingham to Orlando Departs: 10:00 a.m. Arrives: 12:30 p.m.
  • Orlando to Birmingham Departs: 1:00 p.m. Arrives: 1:40 p.m.

The Orlando announcement comes on the heels of last week’s news that American Airlines has resumed nonstop flights between Birmingham and  the city of Brotherly Love – Philadelphia.

This summer, American plans to operate 20 peak day departures from BHM. 

American currently offers nonstop flights from Birmingham to the following cities:

  • Charlotte
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • Miami
  • Philadelphia
  • Washington, D.C.

“With more people taking to the skies this summer, American Airlines is building a flight schedule that helps customers reconnect with friends and loved ones—offering more choice and flexibility than ever before,” said Brian Znotins, Vice President of Network Planning for American Airlines. “Service from Birmingham to Orlando complements existing connectivity to key markets across our network and provides a convenient new option for customers wanting to get away.”
