National Empanada Day is Thursday, April 8. Indulge in these delicious, flakey hand pies when you visit one of these local Birmingham restaurants. Celebrate in Birmingham by getting empanadas from one (or several) of these nine local restaurants.

1. Pa’que Ronald

Pa’que Ronald serves delicious Venezuelan dishes from their food truck, like tacos, hamburgers, areapas, and, of course, empanadas. 
Order your empanada with just cheese or go meaty with shredded beef, chicken or ham.

I am so happy to see Miami Fusion Cafe’s downtown location open again. The restaurant creates amazing Caribbean-inspired dishes, including empanadas that will blow your mind.

Cay Coco Rum Bar has an interesting take on empanadas—beef picadillo. This Cuban comfort dish is made with ground beef, potatoes, bell peppers, onions, garlic, raisins and olives. The filling is then stuffed into a flakey dough and topped with pico de gallo.
