Local spots to get your grub on for National Chili Day
We asked and you answered. We know Birmingham is filled with foodies, so for National Chili Day, we asked y’all via an Instagram poll for the best spots in the city to grab some chili. Whether it’s in a bowl or used as a delicious topping, here’s where you can celebrate this tasty occasion.
1. Scott’s Koneys
If it’s chili you want, it’s chili you’ll get at Scott’s Koneys. Located in the Midtown Food Court near Publix, they’re open for breakfast and lunch with options like Super Chili Dogs, Chili Cheese Fries and bowls of warm chili.

2. Demetri’s Bar-B-Q
Demetri’s Bar-B-Q has chili as a menu staple. Choose between red and white chicken chili paired with a grilled cheese and you’ve got a classic combo that never disappoints.

3. Hamburger Heaven
Whoever first said to slap some chili and cheese on a hotdog knew what they were doing. Hamburger Heaven is based in Birmingham with four locations in the area. Don’t let the name fool you, though. They have sandwiches, salads, breakfast and, of course, a delicious chili cheese dog.
4. Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint
Every Tuesday, Jack Brown’s in Lakeview features their Rickety Cricket Burger on their daily specials menu. If you’ve ever had one of their burgers, you know it melts in your mouth. The Rickety Cricket is a burger topped with house-made chili, caramelized Tabasco onions, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and Fritos.

5. Diplomat Deli
Several people recommended Diplomat Deli’s chili so it must be delicious. Although it’s on the menu during winter months, Diplomat Deli is no stranger to surprising their chili fans with random announcements that it’s back for a limited time.

6. Saw’s BBQ
Say hello to the Carolina Burger. That’s cheese, chili, slaw, mustard, onion and pickles all stacked on a burger patty and grilled to perfection. Saw’s BBQ also has a Carolina Dog and Chili Loaded Potato with green onions if you’d prefer your chili fix that way.

Honorable Mention: Paramount
Chili isn’t a permanent menu item at Paramount, but when it’s a featured item, make sure to swing by for a bowl. Every now and then, the chef whips up this special dish and it’s always bound to run out.
