Everyone can be an ally—even search engines 💻
Google announced two big initiatives that could help support underrepresented entrepreneurs and promote inclusivity. Now, people using Google Search and Maps can see that a business is Black-owned and the attribute will be added to Google’s digital skills training programs offered to Black business owners. This goes hand in hand with the Grow with Google Digital Coaches program offering free mentorship, networking, and workshop opportunities across 11 cities to Black-owned startups, including a recent expansion to Birmingham!
F-R-E-S-H we fresh 🍇
Noticed 5 Points South sporting a healthy glow lately? It’s not Glossier—it’s Local Source Market & Grocery. The new business is filled with fresh, local Alabama produce, products and meats that’ll have you healthier than an LA rabbit. With tons of goods from farms and makers in the surrounding area, it’s like always having access to a farmers market without having waking up before 8AM on a Saturday.
Welcome to the oasis 👏
Not all deserts are filled with prickly cacti and dehydrated hallucinations, but this particular one does include a much-needed oasis. Urban Market Discount Foods is bringing relief, and affordable, healthy food, to Bessemer’s Jonesboro community—a federally-designated food desert. Owner Mara Allen extended a big thank you to the community upon opening, but in post-COVID times we plan on giving her an even bigger hug for providing access to healthy eats in an area that needed a win.
