Nonprofits all over have had to get quite creative when it comes to fundraising this year. This socially distant invention has to be one of our favorites—it involves pups and cocktail kits, so what more could we want?

Hand in Paw (HIP) is a local animal-assisted therapy nonprofit that does so much good right here in Birmingham. Their largest annual fundraiser couldn’t happen safely this year, so they replaced it with Tail Waggin’ Takeout.

This unique fundraiser makes the “ultimutt” date night, girls’ night, or anything in-between. Just buy your ticket, show up at the time and place below, and get all the supplies you need for the night brought right to your car window. Don’t forget your four-legged friends, of course!

Fur-tunate to have Hand in Paw

Can it get any better than that? Sure can—at no point in its history has Hand in Paw ever charged for its services. That means they rely on donations and fundraisers like this one to keep them operating. Don’t miss out on being a part of a mission as special as this one.

“We are so appreciative of our supporters during this challenging time, and we are thankful we can host a safe and exciting new fundraiser at our campus this summer.

With food catered by A Social Affair and treats for your four-legged friends, we will provide a curbside experience unlike any other in Birmingham!”

A Seriously Paw-some Cause

I’d sign up for this event even if it didn’t benefit a cause this special. The fact that your fun evening means improved health and well-being for Birmingham citizens who need it most is just the icing on the cake.

Animal-assisted therapy comes in a ton of different forms, but it’s all carried out with one goal in mind: to help countless children with special needs, at-risk youth, struggling students, and people with chronic and terminal illnesses live better, healthier and happier lives.

Hand in Paw’s professionally-trained animal therapy teams help improve people’s day-to-day lives. 100 therapy teams make thousands of beneficial visits to community events and participating facilities each year.

The therapy teams visit several medical centers, schools and human service organizations throughout North Central Alabama and Tuscaloosa.

Even though plenty of things, including the way we fundraise, have changed because of COVID-19, one thing hasn’t. Hand in Paw still has a ton of ways to help. Here’s a preview of what they’re up to:

  • Having real-time virtual Sit, Stay, Read! visits with the Boys and Girls Club in Tuscaloosa. Even virtually, reading to furry friends online provides students with motivation and makes the experience fun while combating Summer learning loss.
  • Having real-time virtual Petscription visits with UAB’s COVID intensive care unit. Two HIP Therapy Teams recently visited UAB’s COVID-19 intensive care unit by means of a video feed on a telemedicine cart. The goal was to ease the stress on health care workers who have been caring for very sick patients under very trying circumstances.
  • Pre-Recording virtual visits with therapy teams that can be shared on social media. These visits are super fun and range in content. Sometimes the teams read to the camera, sometimes they show off tricks, sometimes they just share a message of hope. Here are a few examples.
  • Having Open House Webinars. Typically, HIP hosts an open house every month for folks to learn about volunteering. With COVID-19, they’ve adapted to host a webinar instead. Check it out.

Howl could you miss this? Be sure to get your ticket today. We’ll see you on August 14!
