Our rivers do A LOT for us Birmingham so it’s about time we celebrate them with a block party! Enjoy live music, beer, art and fight water pollution at the 9th annual AirWave Block Party on Sat., Mar. 21 at Good People Brewing. Come out and support the Black Warrior Riverkeeper and two other waterkeepers.
What is the AirWave Block Party?
The Birmingham community comes together to celebrate conservation efforts, and what better way than by drinking beer made from that fresh water? I mean if that’s not enough of a reason take a look at what else is happening.
Tons of fun for everyone
If you like clean drinking water AirWave Block Party is about most fun way you can make sure it stays that way. Chow down on Birmingham’s best food trucks and enjoy Good People beer while you peruse local art.
There’ll also be live music from bangin’ bands you can rock out to and pub games—basically, it’s the ultimate Saturday afternoon. In addition to that, the event will feature an outdoorsy silent auction and lots of craft and nonprofit vendors.
Supporting an amazing cause
AirWave promotes cleaner water in the three major river watersheds of the Greater Birmingham area. All donations and sponsorships support those three amazing nonprofits keeping our rivers safe and clean:
“Rather than further dwelling on our differences, let’s focus on one essential thing that unites us all: water.
We all need clean water to survive and thrive. AirWave is an opportunity for anyone to support clean water while having an amazing Saturday.
Charles Scribner, Executive Director for Black Warrior Riverkeeper
Why you should care
Look, we live in the south so about the only way you can stand being outside in the summer is if you’re in the water. How many of us have spent lazy days swimming at the lake or fishing with your dad?
“Alabama is America’s leading state for freshwater biodiversity, which means our waterways have more species of freshwater fish, crayfish, mussels, snails, and turtles than any other state.”
Charles Scribner, Executive Director for Black Warrior Riverkeeper
Clean rivers are made possible through the amazing efforts these waterkeepers do every day. They’re saving endangered species, fighting against pollution and it’s not all done behind a desk either.
Did you know volunteers actively go out every week and clean up our rivers by picking up litter? There are a lot more ways you can be involved as a volunteer—check it out.
