Okay, Birmingham—we’ve got an extra hour of daylight, and we’ve seen the sun a couple of times in the last week. You know what that means—it’s time to get outside and run! Here’s a guide to some opportunities coming up. 

1) GreenWise Market Village 2 Village 10k and 7.5k

After you finish this Mountain Brook run, grab a mimosa and some chocolate-dipped strawberries—you earned it. This event is happening rain or shine, which is good because rain seems to be the norm around here lately.

2) Color4Friendship Run

Get doused in bright colors throughout this one-mile fun run which raises awareness for individuals with special needs. Proceeds benefit Friendship Circle of Alabama, a nonprofit that provides social recreational experiences to children with special needs and support for their parents.

3) Highlands College Half Marathon + 10K

If you’re looking for a half marathon, here’s your chance this month. The Highlands College race includes a half and a 10k option.

4) Oak Mountain 50k

This one’s for the serious runners. The Oak Mountain ultra marathon is open to 150 runners that have what it takes to run 30 miles of trails. I’m not one of them… but I admire those that are!

5) Rumpshaker 5k

The aptly-named Rumpshaker 5k has been raising awareness for colorectal cancer for more than a decade. The race may be fun, but the issue is serious—colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer diagnosed in the U.S. Funds raised from the race will benefit those in Alabama affected by the disease.

6) Running for the Bulls 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run

This is the second year of the Running for the Bulls race benefitting Bama Bully Rescue. A canine running companion is not required, but Fido might make it even more enjoyable.
