Celebrate Christmas Eve with peace, hope and community at these candlelight services taking place in Birmingham on December 24.
Asbury United Methodist Church
The holiday spirit is alive at Asbury United Methodist Church. This Christmas Eve, they’ll be hosting four separate candlelight communion services. Here’s the rundown:
Traditions Services
Rev. Dr. Kip Laxson will lead three Traditions candlelight communion services in Asbury UMC’s sanctuary.
Musical performances will include:
- Children’s choirs and Chancel choir – 4PM
- Chancel Choir – 8PM
- String quartet and soloists – 11PM
The Bridge Contemporary Services
Join Rev. Robert Mercer in Asbury’s Williams Chapel as he leads The Bridge Contemporary service at 6PM.
And a more contemporary service it will truly be with Asbury UMC’s electric praise band that features guitars, drums, keyboard and vocals.

Saint Paul’s Catholic Cathedral
The Cathedral of Saint Paul—informally known as Saint Paul’s Cathedral—has been part of Birmingham’s historic downtown since 1872. This December 24, Saint Paul’s welcomes you to attend Mass during the following times:
- Prelude to Christmas Eve Mass–4:30PM
- Christmas Eve Mass with Bishop Baker–5PM
- Prelude to Christmas Eve Mass–7:30PM
- Christmas Eve Mass with Father Jerabek–8PM
- Sung Office of Readings, Christmas Proclamation and Te Deum–11:15PM
- Midnight Mass with Father Ward–Midnight
