The holiday season is in full swing at Asbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham. Join them as they celebrate Advent with a joyous Christmas Cantata on December 15 and four Christmas Eve Candlelight Services on December 24.

Lovers of Christmas music will want to save the date of Sunday, December 15, when Asbury UMC’s Traditions Services will include something special for the holiday season—a Christmas Cantata! 

You may not know this, but Asbury UMC has an incredible music ministry with chancel, orchestra and handbell choirs, so prepare for a joyous (and free!) performance. 

Traditions Services are held at 8:30AM and 11AM in Asbury UMC’s sanctuary. 

Volunteer to Rise Against Hunger on Sunday, December 15

Looking to get your family involved in a good cause this holiday season? Asbury UMC is partnering with Rise Against Hunger in an effort to help end hunger by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable. 

On Sunday, December 15 at 5:30PM, Asbury UMC is packing 30,024 shelf-stable meals that will be sent to hungry men, women and children around the globe. 

People of all ages are welcome, appreciated and invited to spread Christmas cheer to neighbors far and near.

Take Part in Candlelight Services on Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is one of the most anticipated days of the year, and Asbury UMC will be taking part in the excitement by hosting four candlelight communion services on Tuesday, December 24 at 4PM, 6PM, 8PM and 11PM. 

So while you’re busy preparing for the arrival of Old Saint Nick, family gatherings and more, you’ll have several opportunities to attend. 

Here’s what’s in store at Asbury UMC this Christmas Eve.

Traditions Services

Rev. Dr. Kip Laxson will lead three Traditions candlelight communion services in the Sanctuary. Musical performances are set to include: 

  • Children’s choirs and Chancel choir  – 4PM
  • Chancel choir – 8PM
  • String quartet and soloists – 11PM

The Bridge Contemporary Service

At 6PM, join Rev. Robert Mercer as he leads The Bridge Contemporary Service in Williams Chapel. 

Expect a more upbeat and lively atmosphere with music from Asbury UMC’s electric praise band that features guitars, drums, keyboard and vocals.
