Celebrate the New Year at Iron City
While there are many New Year’s Eve celebrations in Birmingham each year, none are quite as unique as Iron City’s. Especially this year when Iron City hosts its annual 1920s throwback party as we enter an all new 20s era!
What You Should Know
Iron City is hosting a 1920s-themed New Year’s Eve Party on December 31 for guests 21+.
Although Iron City is partying like the 1920s, prohibition will not be enforced! There are three types of tickets to the Roaring 20s New Year’s Eve Party:
Basic General Admission–$75 (with promo code: EARLYBIRD): This ticket gives access to the basic open bar package that features domestic and imported canned beers, house wine, champagne and liquor!
Premium General Admission–$110 (with promo code: EARLYBIRD): In addition to basic bar package, the premium package grants access to craft canned beer, draft beer, and premium wine, champagne and liquor.
Dry General Admission–$50 (with promo code: EARLYBIRD): For those wanting to experience the full Prohibition atmosphere of the 1920s, this package gives you access to the party without access to the bar.
No matter which ticket package you choose, each guest will have access to heavy hors d’oeuvres and party favors.
At midnight, everyone will ring in the New Year with a toast! The basic and premium ticket holders will be served champagne, while the dry ticket holders will have sparkling grace juice.
Act fast! Use promo code: EARLYBIRD to get special ticket prices. This deal ends on December 10. Tickets will then rise to:
Basic GA–$90
Premium GA–$125
Dry GA–$75
The Band is the Bee’s Knees
Since 2012, The Schmohawks have been one of Birmingham’s top cover bands. The five-piece band specializes in music spanning seven decades. They were the first band to perform live at Iron City!
Get Into Character With These 1920s Phrases
Be sure to impress (or possibly embarrass) your friends with these popular phrases from the 1920s:
- Clam – A dollar
- Giggle juice / hooch – liquor
- Swanky – high class, quality, cool
- Ossified / Zozzled – drunk
- Ritzy – elegant
- Speakeasy – a bar selling bootleg liquor (remember Prohibition?)
- Yap – mouth
- Jalopy – an old car
- The cat’s meow – splendid or stylish
My personal favorite, “You slay me.” This popular phrase in the 1920s, which means “hilarious,” has rolled back around and is being used again today.
These Outfits Are the Cat’s Meow
If you want to be the coolest cat at the party, wear your best suit. Spice it up with a matching vest or suspenders to really get into the 1920s style. And if you can pull it off, a classic newsboy cap will solidify the look.
For dames, 1920s flapper dresses were elegant with beads, sequins, fringes and more. In addition to the dress, elbow-length white gloves and a headband or crown fits the style. The short, fringed flapper dress is a ’20s myth, but if you want to wear one, we won’t tell!
