Do you have a special furry four-legged friend in your life? Are you looking for one? Do you just love dogs? If so, these seven events coming up this fall in Birmingham might be for you.
1) #MakeADogsDay Adoption Event
The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) is partnering with Hendrick Subaru Hoover to #MakeADogsDay today, October 22. The event is for underdogs–those that are typically overlooked at the shelter. They may have special needs or have experienced adversity, but these pups have tons of love to give! Head over to GBHS and find your underdog today. The first 50 families to adopt an underdog will go home with a Subaru Bark Box!
When: October 22, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

2) Back Forty Birmingham Boos and Brews
Back Forty Birmingham loves dogs. In addition to having Woof Wednesday every week, the brewery’s Boos and Brews event is coming up October 23. The event is $15 and benefits Studio By The Tracks and Mitchell’s Place, Inc. There’s a pet costume contest, so bring your pup and make sure they are dressed to impress!
When: October 23, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

3) Howls & Growls
So maybe you’re not quite ready to commit to adopting a dog. No worries, you can still support the Greater Birmingham Humane Society! Their annual Howls and Growls event is October 26. This Halloween-themed event at Haven raises awareness and money for GBHS. Tickets are $40.

4) Fultondale Barking at the Moon Festival
The eighth annual Barking at the Moon Festival in Fultondale is coming up October 27. The FREE festival includes costume contests for kids and dogs, treats and more.

5) A Pug Lovers Community Event: Fall Fling and Fashion Show
Are you a fan of this cute and squishy breed? I know I am. Celebrate pugs and support the Alabama Pug Rescue at their Fall Fling November 2 at Oak Mountain. Fashion show and photos with Santa included.
When: November 2, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

6) Inaugural Bark Party Celebrating Highland Park Community Garden
We are so excited to see a community garden coming to Highland Park (stay tuned to Bham Now for more info soon!). To celebrate the opening of the garden, they’re hosting a Bark Party at The Clubhouse on Highland November 7. The event is FREE and includes self-guided garden tours, food and drink, and a dog talent show and costume contest.

7) The Mutt-cracker
Did you know the Birmingham Ballet has a performance of The Nutcracker featuring dogs? The performance–aptly named The Mutt-cracker–has been internationally recognized, too. Check it out at The Alabama Theatre November 29.
