Food Network star Dom Tesoriero visits Birmingham
As residents of Birmingham, we all know we have some of the best food around. And it’s always nice to see our culinary scene recognized on a national level. Most recently, Food Network’s Dom Tesoriero stopped by the Magic City for his Youtube series, “Dom Eats Local“. Where did he go? What did he think? Find out below.
Who is Dom Tesoriero?
For those that don’t watch the Food Network, Tesoriero was a runner-up on the channel’s reality show “Food Network Star” in 2015. He’s also the owner of New York City’s first Mac and Cheese Truck. Yum.
First stop: Bottega
Tesoriero’s first stop on his tour of Birmingham was none other than Bottega, of course. The restaurant by James Beard award-winner Frank Stitt is always a favorite. Dom tried the pizza–and if you haven’t done the same, I’d highly recommend it! Crawfish was also on the menu–we are in the South, after all.
The verdict? “This is some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had, and I never would have expected to have it in Birmingham, Alabama,” Tesoriero said. We’re not surprised.
Location:
2240 Highland Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205
Second stop: Bob Sykes BBQ
A foodie tour of Alabama wouldn’t be complete without some BBQ. Tesoriero’s second stop was Bob Sykes Bar-B-Q, which has been around for over 60 years! Van Sykes (the son of Bob, for those that don’t know) showed the New York native how to work a BBQ pit. My mouth was watering just seeing that BBQ sandwich, and I don’t even eat pork!
Location:
1724 9th Ave N, Bessemer, AL 35020
