Feeling outdoorsy? Venture to Cheaha State Park for their naturalist Labor Day Weekend programs. 

Just one hour and 15 minutes via I-20 East from downtown Birmingham, the park stretches 2,799 acres and includes Cheaha Mountain—the highest point in the state of Alabama.

Arts in the Environment: Hiking Stick Workshop

Description: Learn how to make your own hiking stick. Supplies provided. Registration required.

Take a Hike: Accessible and Interpretive Discovery Hike

Description: Hike across the highest mountain in Alabama with Cheaha Naturalist Mandy Pearson. Learn about the Cheaha ecosystem, plants, animals and history. Hike distance: 0.6 miles.

Schools may be out on Monday, September 2 for Labor Day, but science is still in session at McWane Science Center.

This Labor Day, McWane Science Center will host their monthly Home School Day where homeschoolers can take part in:
