What’s one of the most delightfully delicious meal combos ever created? Brunch, of course! Here are seven spots serving up a tasty brunch in Birmingham.
Roots & Revelry
Roots and Revelry is a top brunch choice if you dig an elegant, yet casual dining style and a menu rich in local and seasonal ingredients.
On the menu, you’ll find a mix of brunch classics with a Roots & Revelry twist.
Start of your meal with an appetizer like avocado toast made with lime, cilantro, quest fresco, pickled onion and olive oil ($8), or the macadamia beignets with cardamom, orange zest, cinnamon and raspberry cream ($7).
Feeling lunchy? Consider a shrimp or oyster po-boy with lettuce, caper-dill aioli and garlic fries. ($16).
For the ultimate combo of breakfast and lunch, I suggest the R&R Breakfast.

Holler and Dash
Holler and Dash is best known for its signature biscuits. Trust me, they are truly original. Here are some to consider:
Garden Goat: fried goat cheese, kale, lemon dijon vinaigrette and tomato jam
Hollerback Club: bacon, guacamole, fried green tomato and holler back sauce
Kickback Chicken: fried chicken, goat cheese, green onion and sweet pepper jelly with a kick
There are plenty of classic biscuits to choose from, too, such as:
- Bacon egg and cheese
- Biscuits and gravy
- Sausage egg and cheese
There’s much more to Holler and Dash than biscuits, though, such as:
- Toast (avocado or peanut butter and banana)

Mile End Deli
Nothing says breakfast more than bagels. And at this delicatessen, you can find just that—and more!
Enjoy a variety of menu items from breakfast plates with eggs and bacon to French toast with fruit.
But the wood-fired bagel sandwiches are a must-experience. Each comes on your choice of bagel—plain, sesame, poppyseed or everything.
New Year: honey crisp apples and arugula with honey walnut cream cheese
Steak ‘N Egg: prime rib, fried egg and American cheese with scallion cream cheese

Big Bad Breakfast
I’ve only managed one visit to Big Bad Breakfast and I can honestly say that the taste of their incredible pancakes actually wander into my daydreams more often than I’d like to admit.
What makes it so good? A chill atmosphere, local ingredients and delicious made-from-scratch food.
Here are some menu items that show just how tasty BBB is:
Veggie Omelet: mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and goat cheese. Served with tossed greens and fries.
Big Bad Breakfast: three eggs scrambled, bacon, sausage, ham, onions, potatoes and cheddar cheese.
Flapjacks: three fluffy, tangy, buttermilk pancakes with a hint of vanilla, served with BBB’s house syrup. Served with your choice of meat.
If you’re a fan of Bloody Mary’s, be sure to give one a try. It’s made from scratch and totally yummy. Price: $8.

You’ll find lines out the door at this popular dive in Downtown Birmingham. Here’s why:
- Meals are home-cooked and made fresh and from scratch.
- Ingredients are high quality.
- There are lots of gluten free options available.
My favorite reason: it’s mmm, mmm, good!
On the menu, you’ll find everything from omelettes and shrimp and grits to pancakes and biscuits.
The winning menu item at Yo Mama’s, though, is the chicken and waffles.
Description: Belgian waffles with homemade syrup topped with six fried chicken wings. Fruit toppings (strawberries and blueberries) can be added.
You can also request your waffles to be gluten free.
