I will always remember two statements made by Scott Pruitt, owner of the just opened Oversoul Brewing in Helena, Alabama, during an impromptu tour with Bham Now.  He said:

“We want to offer something for the people in the city of Helena and Shelby County to come to – something with a little bit of love in it.”

And about the beer:

“We are going to have the freshest beer there is – and I can guarantee that.”

A genuine family business, Scott and his brother Jason have been spending every spare moment they could afford. building the Oversoul brewing, which is located along Buck Creek in the downtown area  of Helena.

Buck Creek Festival

According to Scott, it was at the Buck Creek Festival this past spring they went ahead and “blew it out.”

The beers they offered did were so popular at the festival, they nearly sold their entire inventory. The brewery had to close until they stocked it back up to reopen.   Pruitt assures us Oversoul is open for good.

What kind of beers to expect

What kind of beers are on tap at Oversoul?

“Browns, porters and IPAs,  we have also got different versions of Pale,” says Pruitt. “We are basically starting off with your standards. I know a lot of guys do sours – and that is down the road. To get this building up and running we are sticking with the standards.”

During the summer months expect Oversoul to incorporate blackberries and peaches from the Helena Farmer’s Market into their beer. Pruitt call it their “market series.”  They tried it last summer and it was a hit.

Along with the beer, Oversoul Brewing is in a great location for the growing Helena community. There is a fantastic deck overlooking Buck Creek, and visitors are just a stones throw from the amphitheater and across the street to the waterfall.
