Kids love building with them. Parents do too, even if they do fear stepping on them. I’m talking about everyone’s favorite plaything—LEGO®. On Saturday, June 15, LEGO® enthusiasts will flock to McWane Science Center to take part in their annual LEGO® Day celebration. Here are six reasons you should check out this exciting, creative and totally colorful event.

1. You’ll Have an Excuse to Play All Day

Kids are lucky. They get to play all day every day. Something I definitely did not appreciate to its fullest way back when. During LEGO® Day at McWane Science Center, everyone will have the chance to play all day long. In fact, it’s encouraged!

From 10AM-5PM, join in all of the LEGO® building activities taking place throughout McWane’s Adventure Halls. Just grab some LEGO® Bricks and let your imagination run free. Create something fabulous? We’d love to see your creations! Tag @mcwanesciencecenter and @bham_now on Instagram.

2. You Can Show Off Your Lego Skills

Do you have mad LEGO® skills? Then be sure to attend Design Challenge: LEGO® Engineering event. During this exciting program, you’ll have the fun opportunity to take on a unique engineering challenge and build your solution using LEGO® Bricks.

Are you master of the bricks? Prove it on Saturday, June 15 at 12PM, 1:30PM and 3PM in McWane Science Center’s workshop.

3. You’ll Be Wowed By LEGO® Displays

Have you ever seen a LEGO® Display and just thought “wow”? During LEGO® Day at McWane Science Center, get ready to wow, wow and wow some more.

From 10AM-4PM, McWane’s Special Events Center will be filled with amazing LEGO® displays from the Magic City LEGO Users Group. You’ll even have the chance to chat with the creators. Hey, maybe they’ll give you some inside tips on how to be the ultimate LEGO® builder.

4. You and Your Family Will Learn Cool Stuff

Along with free play, displays and challenges, LEGO® Day will also provide learning programs for all ages.

Interested in robotics and programming? You’ll be amazed by this insightful class where you’ll get an introduction to robotics and programming using LEGO® models. Attend the lab at 11AM, 2PM and 4PM in classroom 303.

For McWane’s littlest guests (kindergarten and younger), check out the LEGO® Critters Crossing in the Itty Bitty Magic City classroom at 11:30AM and 2:30PM. Here young adventurers will be able to build a LEGO® bridge to help the critters cross the river.

5. You Can Become a LEGO® Caricature

Yes, you read that right. Instead of just playing with colorful bricks, you can now become one during LEGO® Day at McWane Science Center.

From 11AM-1PM and 3-5PM, visit the Miniature Caricatures Program in McWane’s special events center. Here you’ll have the chance to have your portrait drawn in the style of a mini LEGO® figure.

How cool is that? My husband would love to show off his very own LEGO® man. It would definitely spruce up the walls in that man cave of his, too.

6. It’s the Perfect Father’s Day Gift

Struggling to find the perfect gift or outing with dear old dad this Father’s Day? Great news! LEGO® Day at McWane Science Center coincides with Father’s Day weekend. Could the timing of the two be more perfect?

If your dad and husband love those colorful bricks as much as mine do, this is the perfect way for you and your kiddos to surprise them both this Father’s Day weekend.

FYI: if you decide to bypass LEGO® Day on Saturday, June 15, consider going the following day on Sunday, June 16 for actual Father’s Day. All dads will receive free admission with purchase of one child’s admission.
