Finding a restaurant that serves affordable healthy meals, quickly for your family or people on the go is not easy. Have no fear Birmingham, we have found that place.

Greenhouse in Homewood.

This week, Mary Claire and Bray Britton, the owners of Greenhouse gave Bham Now a special sneak peek of their new restaurant that will be opening in May in the Edgewood Business District.

The Concept

Cooking healthy food at home is not always easy. It is much more labor intensive than just picking up something at the supermarket or at a fast food drive through. The Brittons goal with Greenhouse is to provide families and people on the go with delicious, healthy food that they can feel good about eating.

According to Mary Claire, “The concept came from the way we feed our own family. We’ve got three little boys and not enough time. We try to feed our family a wide variety of colorful foods to help us all feel and be our very best. What we are doing here (at Greenhouse) , is essentially what we have been doing at home for the past several years.”

Bray added, “We have developed a restaurant that sells lean proteins and local greens that you can get in a hurry. You can order online, call ahead and fly in and out. Boom: you have a healthy, affordable meal for your family.”

The Brittons are both natives of Birmingham and veterans in the restaurant scene here in the Magic City.

For years, Bray worked under Frank Stitt at Highlands Bar & Grill and Bottega. He was also the chef at Paramount downtown. Mary Claire has worked at Atlanta’s Bacchanalia and Star Provisions. They both worked together at Dyron’s Low Country in Crestline, which is where they met.

What will be on the menu?

There will be hearty sandwiches, huge salads and great soups (Bray is legendary for his soups) on the menu with gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options. Mary Claire is a pastry chef, so folks can have muffins, brownies and of course her signature dessert – the Ridiculous Cookie. There will also be slushies and smoothies available (just in time for summer), and the full range of coffee options, including cold brew and espresso.
