January was a pretty slow month on the event front, but now that we have our feet firmly planted in 2019, we’ve got a full event calendar to share with you! There will be no shortage of fun on your calendar this February, that’s for sure.

Art After 5: Galentines Day, February 1

You don’t have to be a lady to enjoy a night full of friendship which includes makers’ activities to celebrate the special females in your life, cocktail tastings, and a Treat Yo’ Self tour to cap off the night. The event, hosted by the Birmingham Museum of Art, is free of charge and open to all who are looking to have a good night!

13th Birmingham Chinese New Year Gala, February 2

This cultural event will feature performances including acrobatics, magic shows, Chinese Opera, dance, singing and more by Beijing Chaoyang Art Troupe and Birmingham’s local talent groups. Dragon dance, Lion dance, Chinese drums, Chinese arts and crafts will be presented in the event. Traditional food will be available for purchase as well. A fun, cultural and educational experience will be shared and enjoyed by families and children of all ages.

Event location: Boutwell Auditorium. Time: 10:30AM-2:30PM.

Birmingham Winter Beer Fest, February 2

Enjoy a aampling of over 150 world-class craft beers, Educational Sessions, a Cornhole Tournament, a Silent Disco, Karaoke, Photo Booth, and more at the Birmingham Winter Beer Fest. The festival will be held at The BJCC and starts at 3PM. Buy tickets here.

Fred Armisen at The Lyric, February 5

My Heart Through Art at the Liz Lane Gallery, February 8

Liz Lane Gallery and Black Warrior Riverkeeper are partnering for a public event called “My Heart through Art.” The event will feature a large collection of postcard sized art perfect for sending to one’s Valentine. Original works, including paper, ceramic and canvas pieces, will begin at $20. Each artist has graciously donated work for this show, so all sales from this collection will go directly to Black Warrior Riverkeeper. Visitors will enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres. There is no admission cost, but optional donations to Black Warrior Riverkeeper will be accepted.

Let’s Stay Together Alley Cat, February 9

Grab your best friend, your lover, your neighbor or a nearby stranger cyclist and come ride in the first Alley Cat of 2019, hosted by Redemptive Cycles. They will have some extra sweet treats for you on this ride but come prepared – all checkpoints will require two riders to ‘check-in’. Both riders must finish simultaneously. There will be a bonus prize for the couple with the best coordinated outfits. Entry is $10 per rider. Event starts at Redemptive Cycles, 11AM-2PM.

Pints and Paws at Siluria Brewing Company, February 9

Galentines Day Mom’s Night Out at the Cowfish, February 13

Boss of Me: An Art Show All About Cats, Starting February 15

This art show features wonderful feline-filled artwork and benefits Kitty Cat Haven and Rescue! See work from fabulous artists starting on Third Friday, February 15.

Clay Days at the BMA, February 15 and 16

The 2019 Bunting Biennial Ceramics Weekend takes place on February 15 and 16, and offers a fresh format that puts an emphasis on creating. Don’t miss the opening night speaker event with NY-based ceramicist Joan Bankemper with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails following. On Saturday, gets hands-on after you watch a potter throw on a wheel. Work on sculpture-making and mosaics.

The Birmingham Moth StorySLAM at Saturn, February 20

Fans of The Moth podcast will be excited for the storytelling event to take place in Birmingham. Hosted at Saturn, this event allows anyone to share a 5-minute story onstage. The theme for this event: Firsts. If you have a great story about a “first” experience, or just want to hear others’ stories, attend the StorySLAM event at Saturn, at 7:30PM.

Alabama Coffee Fest, February 23

Coffee lovers, this one’s for you! The Alabama Multicultural Organization (AMOR) presents the Alabama Coffee Fest at Cahaba Brewing. This is a fun event for coffee aficionados in Birmingham to taste different coffee styles and flavor profiles.

Beer My Valentine – A Hop City Beer Dinner, February 24

You’ve heard of wine pairings with food, but have you tried a beer-and-food paired dinner? Enjoy a chef-paired beer dinner featuring food from Hot Tag food truck and Moody Tongue beers. Check out the menu and buy tickets here.

2019 A Night At The Oscars, February 24

2019 marks the thirteenth annual “A Night at the Oscars” Gala, benefitting Mitchell’s Place. Mitchell’s Place is a Comprehensive Autism Treatment Center and Early Learning Program serving Birmingham and surrounding areas. The Academy Awards will be broadcast throughout the room. The event will be held Sunday, February 24, 2019 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at The Club. The attire is Black Tie Optional.

NAACP In Birmingham: Insights from Dorothea P. Crosby, February 26

Come meet Dorothea P. Crosby, lifelong city resident and the new President of the Metro Birmingham Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). A former judicial assistant with the state of Alabama, Dorothea has a strong record of volunteer service with Children’s Village, Habitat for Humanity, and the Pre-K program with the Birmingham City School System. Last fall, she helped with the successful campaign to elect Danny Carr District Attorney, Jefferson County. Don’t miss this chance to meet Dorothea and learn more about her goals for this essential leadership organization and ideas for eliminating race-based discrimination in our community.

The event will be held at Surin West, 11:30AM – 1PM.

WBHM’s Junior Board Presents: This Alabama Life, February 28

The WBHM Junior Board presents the 2nd Annual This Alabama Life, a live variety show that highlights the talented people in our dear state.
