Reading time: 3 minutes
Get excited all you Birmingham food lovers. Birmingham’s Nick Pihakis of Jim ‘N Nick’s is bringing a James Beard award-winning chef’s BBQ and Jewish Deli to the ‘ham.
You heard me right. Read on friends.
The Restaurant Group that’s Revitalizing Birmingham’s Food Scene
The Pihakis Restaurant Group started with Jim ‘N Nick’s at the very beginning before partnering with some of my favorite Birmingham establishments.
Their gang now includes Homewood’s Big Bad Breakfast, Avondale’s Saigon Noodle House, Hero Doughnuts and Nashville’s Mile End Deli, to name a few.
Most recently, Pihakis has partnered with his long-time friend Rodney Scott of Charleston’s Rodney Scott’s BBQ and we’re thrilled to announce he will be serving his glorious BBQ right here in the ‘ham.
They hope to open the doors of this new downtown Birmingham location at the end of 2018 or early 2019.
Take a look at some of the accolades they’ve received lately.
Birmingham Representing @ the James Beard Foundation’s 2018 Awards
Only a little over a year after opening and Rodney Scott’s BBQ has already garnered *major* attention. You might have heard Scott won a little-bitty JAMES BEARD FOUNDATION AWARD for Best Chef of the Southeast last week.
It’s like the Oscars of food, people. And Mr. Scott not only was the first African American to receive this honor, but also the second barbecue master to be given this award ever.
Put your hands together, because we think that deserves a standing ovation.
And if you haven’t heard, Birmingham’s own Highlands Bar & Grill took home the Most Outstanding Restaurant in America AND Best Pastry Chef Award this year too.
We’re pretty stinkin excited to see Birmingham’s food scene getting the recognition it deserves and that another James Beard award winner will be joining the crew here in the ‘ham.
More New Restaurants Coming to Birmingham
Plus more big news is comin at ya Birmingham.
Birmingham’s been drooling for a good Jewish Deli for too long and its prayers have finally been answered.
Nashville’s Mile End Deli will be moving into the former Cosecha Urban Kitchen space across from Railroad Park.
Thanks again to Jim ‘N Nick’s Restaurant Group, we. can’t. wait. to stuff our faces with these good eats.
Rumor has it the group also has ideas of opening a second Hero Doughnuts downtown across from Paramount. We’ll keep you updated on those sweet deets.
Thanks for following along with Birmigham’s renaissance at Bham Now.
