Is your child a high schooler in Alabama? Then you’ll definitely want to check this out! In a study by U.S. News and World Report, several high schools in the greater Birmingham area were named as the best schools in Alabama. How did your child’s school rank on the list?

U.S. News and World Report collected data on over 20,500 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on:

  • Performance on state assessments
  • How well the school prepares students for college

How did U.S. News determine which schools should be awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal? Schools had to meet the following criteria:

  1. Students exceeded expectations in their state.
  2. Underserved students performed better than the state average.
  3. Student graduation rates met a threshold.
  4. Students were prepared for college-level coursework
