ALDI to open remodeled Homewood store next week
Reading time: 2 minutes
It’s a grocery store. And it saves you an incredible amount on your grocery bill each time you shop. Who is it? ALDI, of course! And there is some great news for shoppers in Birmingham.
ALDI is reopening its Homewood location at 428 Green Springs Hwy. And it’s happening next week! This is one of 13 ALDI stores in Birmingham that plan to remodel by the end of 2019.
The deal
The reopening of ALDI’s Green Springs Hwy. location is part of a $1.6 billion push to remodel and expand more than 1,300 U.S. ALDI stores by 2020. That’s a whole lot of stores! Currently, there are 1,700 stores in 35 states. $14 million was invested by the company in its metro Birmingham stores.
The remodeling
So what will the remodeled ALDI’s be like? Envision this:
- An updated modern design
- Open ceilings
- Natural lighting
- Environmentally-friendly building materials (recycled materials, energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting)
Will you still need to pay a quarter to rent a shopping cart while we shop? Well, I guess we’ll have to visit and see.
According to Jason Hart, CELO, ALDI,
“With this significant investment in our stores, what we’re really doing is continuing to invest in ALDI customers. We’re continuing to expand our fresh offerings, which means we need to provide more space for produce, meat and bakery items. We’ve also made a number of improvements to our products – such as removing added MSG, certified synthetic colors and partially hydrogenated oils from all of our ALDI exclusive brand foods.”
The result
What will ALDI’s investment create for Birmingham and the country? 25,00 new jobs in stores, warehouses and offices. Not to mention great savings on those never-ending grocery bills.
