The American Idol winner is set to perform at the Grand Opening Celebration of the long-awaited transportation hub facility.

The new facility brings together Amtrak, Greyhound, and MAX Transit, which had previously been housed in different locations throughout the city. There will also be a location for Megabus to pick up passengers. City officials say this new facility will be Birmingham’s new transportation hub.

Operations at the facility have already begun. MAX Transit’s Central Station and Olivia’s Transit Cafe opened last June and Amtrak began serving passengers on January 30th of this year. Greyhound is set to begin service from the station on February 28th.

The event will serve as a official celebration for the new facility and the opportunities that it means for Birmingham. Passengers can take advantage of affordable transportation opportunities both locally and nationwide. Amtrak’s Crescent Line, which operates out of the new facility, provides daily transportation from New Orleans to New York City. A value ticket from Birmingham New York’s Penn Station will cost you around $160 and 22 hours of travel time.

The Grand Opening Celebration will take place on Friday, February 23rd from 3pm-5pm. American Idol winner and Birmingham native Taylor Hicks will be performing. According to MAX Transit’s Facebook Page, there will also be a few surprise special guests. The event is free and open to the public.
