Our last BOLD Speaker Morgan Copes just made a BIG announcement about the future of USL Birmingham. Get the details here.

USL Birmingham Negotiates with UAB for Field Expansion

UAB might expand the BBVA Compass Field house to become USL Birmingham’s home turf.

UAB gave its third thumbs up to expanding its upgrade to the stadium for Birmingham’s new professional soccer team to play in.  If Stage 4 of negotiations goes smoothly, the stadium will hold 4,500 to 5,000 fans (rather than 2,500) and a larger concessions stand.

I.e. all the game day hot dogs, local brews and excitement a soccer fan could imagine.  We could not be more excited to see if UAB will be USL Birmingham’s new stomping ground.

Morgan Copes moved to Birmingham in 2012 with a job at Regions and a love for soccer. After a few years and a conversation over a beer at a local brewery, he dreamed of bringing professional soccer to the Magic City.

The people of Birmingham immediately gathered around Copes and the Birmingham Hammers was born.  With the goal of attracting a professional team, the Hammers played an exhibition season and jumped into a league around 2015.

And just about two months ago Copes got to announce that his dream is becoming a reality-a United Soccer League franchise is coming to the ‘ham.
