This week is a big one at Birmingham music venues.

First the bad news if you’re only now planning your weekend: there are two shows on Thursday that are sold out. Dinosaur Jr. takes the stage on at Saturn with Easy Action and rising country star Jon Pardi, who will hit the road with Miranda Lambert in January, performs before a sellout crowd at Avondale Brewing Company with Midland and Runaway June. Friday’s Judah and the Lion show at Iron City is also a sellout; the band’s humble beginnings playing in front of a few dozen people at Good People Brewing Company just a few years ego have grown into a showstopping slot at Sloss Fest and now packing nearly 1,300 into Iron City.

Now, the good news: there is plenty of great music in the Magic City this weekend. Plenty.

Friday: Robert Cray Band. Alys Stephens Center. 8 p.m. Tickets begin at $39.

Friday: Alvvays with Nap Eyes. Saturn. Doors are at 8 p.m. Show is at 9 p.m. $15.

Saturday: Adia Victoria with Rachael Roberts and Sister Sniffle. Syndicate Lounge. Doors at 8 p.m. Show at 9 p.m. $8 ADV/$10 Door.

Saturday: Royal Thunder with Beitthemeans, Brother Hawk, VOLK. The Nick. Doors at 9 p.m. Show at 10 p.m. $8 ADV/$10 Door.

Sunday: Vulcan Aftertunes featuring New Breed Brass Band. Birmingham’s own Heath Green and the Makeshifters open. Gates open at 1:30 p.m. Heath Green and the Makeshifters begin at 2:30 p.m. New Breed Brass Band begins at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for Members and $18 for Non-Members.

Sunday: Sheer Mag – A Saturn Nights Showcase. Shocks and Dommel Mosel open. Doors at 7 p.m. Show at 8 p.m. Free. Sheer Mag is a five-piece DIY band from Philadelphia that lands somewhere between glam and punk. Their 2017 release Need to Feel Your Love is loud and brash and nostalgic. Thanks to Good People, this one is a free show, and Sheer Mag definitely feels like the type of band that will be playing larger clubs (and in front of larger audiences) sooner rather than later.

Around Alabama:

Saturday: Uniontown Prophets. Gip’s Place in Bessemer. Show starts at approximately 8 p.m.

Saturday: Banditos with B.B Palmer. Standard Deluxe in Waverly. Chef Brian Cosby will be serving “Cos B-Q” in the Feed Shak. Food around 6 p.m. Music around 8 p.m.

Next week:

Tuesday: Portugal. The Man. Iron City. Lido opens. Sold out.

Tuesday: Bodeans. Workplay. Stripped down, beautiful renditions of Bodeans classics. Show is at 8 p.m. $27.50.
