Iron Tribe is a Birmingham-born, community-focused health club that’s found a way to stand out in the explosive fitness industry. We’ll explore how their new mobile app for members, custom-built by Birmingham development agency Airship, is helping the Tribe Movement go national.

Meet Iron Tribe Fitness
What started out as a local gym in 2010 in Homewood, AL, quickly became one of the fastest growing franchises in the U.S. – landing Iron Tribe a spot on Entrepreneur’s 2017 Top 100 New Franchises list.

Today, Iron Tribe has more than 7,000 athletes, locations across 11 states and 8 corporately-owned stores.  Their membership renewal rates are even more impressive with an industry high level of retention. They knew the right technology would play a crucial role in keeping their members engaged with the Tribe.

“Iron Tribe is built on community and allowing our athletes to connect through technology has been a longtime goal,” said Forrest Walden, Iron Tribe Founder and CEO.

“With new features that allow our members to follow each other and see who else is signed up for class, we’re confident their experience will be enhanced.”
Airship partnered with Iron Tribe in March 2017 to design and build the custom mobile app. The app was released in July to all Iron Tribe members across the U.S.

“Being founded and based in Birmingham, we’ve always tried to look local-first when it comes to improving the overall member experience,” added Forrest.

“We’re proud to say that Airship has not only gone above and beyond in creating our new mobile app experience, but they’ve also joined us in the gym!”

The mobile app Airship developed for Iron Tribe includes features tailored just for the Tribe Movement. Athletes can sign up for classes, track their own progress, view leaderboards, preview workouts, manage billing, and more from a streamlined layout that’s easy to navigate.

Best of all, the app helps Iron Tribe members stay connected. Athletes can track each other’s progress, giving them someone to compete against (besides themselves).
