Alabama needs soccer referees.

The Fall soccer season in Alabama begins in late August. Before the season starts the Central Alabama Referee Association  (CARA) needs to recruit and certify dozens of new soccer referees.

That is why CARA is holding 2 referee classes/clinics for NEW soccer referees in the Birmingham area for the next two Saturdays, August 5th   (Heardmont Park) and August 12th (Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex).

(Before you attend the class you must complete the online referee training course.)

Step by step instructions on becoming a referee- HERE

Refereeing soccer games pay approximately $20 to $35 an hour depending on the level of the game. Referees can be assigned to 2 – 6 games a day, primarily on weekends. Some refs are part-timers and only occasionally do games. There are refs that actually make officiating games their career.

The beginning age to become a soccer ref in Alabama is 14 years old. There is no age cut-off.

The class consists of an online class and a classroom class. Both are required.

You must complete the online class before you attend the classroom class.
You do not need to pre-register for the classroom class. Just show up.

The total cost of the class is $100.00. $40.00 cash or check is paid at the class and the remaining $60.00 is paid online when you register.

The class is entirely indoors. You do not need to bring any soccer gear.
We will bring lunch in so you will need about $5.00 – $10.00 for lunch.

If you have any additional questions, contact Joe Gallagher, Central Alabama Referee Association at 205 516-9430.

If you love the game of soccer, this is a great way to “give back” and make a difference.
