The best bargain in town? Try the MAX Transit’s Lakeview Local.
If you are traveling from Pepper Place to Railroad Park/Regions Field here is how much it will cost you to take Uber, taxi or a bus.
Uber – $5-$7 (Uber.com)
Taxi – $6.59-$7.36 (Taxifarefinder.com)
Bus – Lakeview Local 93 – $.25
That’s not a misprint.
It only cost a quarter to take the Lakeview Local, and if you take the bus during a Barons home game it is free.
Now that’s a bargain.
Last month, the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) launched its new and improved Lakeview Local route which serves Southside, Pepper Place, Lakeview District, Railroad Park, Regions Field and UAB. The service runs 11am- 11:55pm Monday-Saturday.
“We decided to adjust our route to better meet the needs of our customers and respond to the tremendous growth within this area. We are so excited to have the opportunity to constantly look for ways to improve service for the Lakeview community, stated Rhonda Robinson, BJCTA Director of Communication.
Along with stops at Pepper Place, the Lakeview entertainment district and Railroad Park, the Lakeview Local also travels either in front of or within a block of Birmingham’s best breweries (Good People, Ghost Train and Trim Tab) and concert venues (Work Play and Iron City).
This week, Bham Now traveled the Lakeview Local route to “check it out.” The ride was comfortable and easy. Here is a gallery of snapshots on the route from the bus.
“We are thrilled that BJCTA is offering in-town transit via the Lakeview Local,” said Tabitha Lacy, Executive Director, Lakeview Business Association. “We think it’s great for the entire community. It’s the best 25-cent deal in town!”
The Lakeview Local route enables people to come for lunch or dinner in Lakeview and easily get to Regions Field and Railroad Park and back without having to deal with parking.
“Having a bus network that easily gets folks from downtown to downtown-adjacent neighborhoods like Lakeview has long been needed in Birmingham. So we think this is a great start. So we encourage people to spend a quarter, get on the Lakeview Local, and come visit,” Lacy concluded.
If you have questions about the Lakeview Local, it’s schedule and stops along the route, call the BJCTA at (205) 521-0101. The representative will help you make your journey efficient and timely.
It’s easy and a bargain.
