Have you heard of the show Amazing Race? Well, Birmingham has its very own taking place on Saturday, June 3rd!
Lakeshore Foundation
Our mission is to enable people with physical disability and chronic health conditions to lead healthy, active, and independent lifestyles through physical activity, sport, recreation, advocacy, policy, and research.
Lakeshore Foundation has 50 aquatics, fitness, and recreation programs for those with disabilities to lead healthier lives. They are internationally renowned and have been named a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site. Lakeshore Foundation trains athletes for USA Women’s Goalball and Wheelchair Basketball.
Lakeshore’s Amazing Race Presented by Vulcan Materials Co.
Lakeshore Foundation’s annual Amazing Race event challenges teams of 4 to complete challenges across their 45-acre campus to raise support for those with disabilities.
The challenges are specifically designed to build awareness of the capabilities of people with physical disabilities and to promote the programs and resources available to community members at Lakeshore.
Contestants experience what it’s like to live with a disability by completing challenges either in a wheelchair or with an arm or hand immobilized.
This event is not only a great way to raise money for the Lakeshore Foundation’s amazing programs, but also a great way to bring awareness to an issue that often goes unnoticed.
