Birmingham Museum of Art introduces Art After 5

Starting this Friday from 5pm to 9pm, the Birmingham Museum of Art will be hosting a new series, Art After 5.

Every first Friday, the museum will feature new art and entertainment with a lot of opportunities to unwind from the week. This will include mini studio art classes, guest musicians, tapas tastings, local mixologists, and art history hacks with experts.

The event is FREE for Members and only $10 for General Admission.

On Friday, you will have the opportunity to peruse through the Ghoulish Gallery Tour with Angela May of the BMA’s Education Department, watch a performance by Contemporary jazz duo Michael Glaser and Choko Aken on piano and drums. You will also get the chance to enjoy a Mini Studio Class with Instructor Meredith Knight and treat yourself to cocktails by the guest mixologist Feizal Valli of downtown’s soon-to-open, The Atomic Lounge.

21st Century Indiana Jones in our midst – UAB’s Sarah Parcak

UAB’s Sarah Parcak, the much acclaimed space archeologist, National Geographic Explorer and TED Prize winner  “wants to make the world’s invisible history visible once again.”

Her plan: Launch in 2017 GlobalXplorer, the first of its kind online citizen science platform that will train an army of Indiana Jones global explorers.
