We serve over 1million Alabamians and 100’s of local businesses. We are growing fast and looking for a top writer to join our team.

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Content Producer in Montgomery who can take the helm of Montgomery UP and produce statewide stories on The Bama Buzz to exponentially grow our audience.

Would you enjoy covering the biggest news in the Montgomery area and around the state including significant openings, buzziest happenings, conservation news, sleekest new development or the hottest tech startup?

Then, here’s what you need to be the right fit:

• You’re a experienced news writer with strong experience on WordPress.
• You love chasing the next big story and beating the competition.
• You think at a high level, strategically brainstorming ways to help our media grow rapidly and pitch ideas on how we can best serve our audience.
• You’re comfortable giving direction to other team members on social media, articles, short video and more.
• You don’t mind helping with recruitment—scouting out the top freelance candidates and training them on our style + methods.
• You + your camera or phone are BFFs— you’ve spent some time practicing how to frame that perfect shot. You enjoy playing with light settings + your eyes are open for things to snap. You’re comfortable being in front of or behind the camera.
• You’re an experienced researcher. Digging deep on a topic in order to share succinct findings and take-aways is second nature to you. You love talking with people and asking smart questions to get to the best details.
• You’re a source builder. You know that relationships get the news first.
• Social media is your friend—you know your way around Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn + TikTok and use it personally and/or professionally.
• Team player is your middle name—you know in your bones that we’re better together.
• You thrive in a FAST paced environment and make deadlines.
•  You’re organized + efficient + juggle multiple stories at once.
• Communicating professionally in email, over the phone or in a presentation with clients, CEOs or strangers on the street comes naturally to you.
• You welcome feedback and constructive criticism and know that learning from others is how you will perfect your craft.

Skills:

• 5+ years of news writing experience —you can turn even the most drab topic into engaging copy that gets traffic.
• Passion and knowledge for the Montgomery area and the state of Alabama.
• Utilize best practices for SEO + AI + Social optimization
• Know how to produce media for the phone.
• Experience with WordPress or other publishing software.
• Personal use of and experience with social media
• Photography skills (or interest in learning).
• Highly organized and strong multi-tasker
• Analytical bent
• Eye for visuals + an understanding of how visuals and copy interact
