Job Summary
Nutrition Services Title III C:
Coordination of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) of Jefferson County’s Senior Nutrition program. Responsible for
program planning and development, and oversight of Senior Nutrition program implementation and services at senior
centers throughout Jefferson County. Supervises congregate and homebound reporting requirements. Follows guidance
and direction from Alabama Department of Senior Services.
Health Promotion Services Title III D:
Coordination of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) of Jefferson County’s Health Promotion program. Oversees the implementation of evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention programs for older adults under Title III D of the Older Americans Act. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and evaluating programs that promote healthy lifestyles and behaviors, managing program budgets, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The coordinator will work closely with community partners to deliver services at senior centers, meal sites, and other community locations, focusing on underserved and economically disadvantaged populations
Responsibilities
• Plans, organizes, and coordinates activities of the AAA Nutrition Program and Health Promotion Evidence-Based programs.
• Works with the AAA Director to develop the annual budget for both program’s expenditures to ensure continuity of programming.
• Coordinates and schedules Evidence Based Health Promotion programs at Jefferson County Senior Centers and other contracted community centers.
• Trains senior center staff and volunteers to ensure proper standards are met in meal service, programming, and reporting.
• Regularly visits senior centers to conduct evaluations, assess problems, and formulate strategies for more effective operation.
• Ensures all contracts with Senior Centers and Health Promotion providers are executed each fiscal year.
• Recruits paid and/or volunteer providers and ensures providers’ training and certifications are current as required by program guidelines.
• Monitors program activities to ensure program guidelines are adhered to for program fidelity.
• Supervises Program staff and serves as backup when staff are absent.
• Reviews reports received from senior centers; compiles weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
• Submits monthly service units, quarterly program reports to ADSS, and monthly provider invoices for payment and monitors budget expenditures.
• Monitors programs and evaluates outcomes.
• Participates in the Community Initiatives Continuous Quality Improvement Plan.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Skills
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Ability to communicate effectively
Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft applications
Proven ability to work in a team-based environment.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in social service or health-related field
Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible administrative, supervisory and case management experience
preferred
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with occasional afterhours work and travel throughout the state
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
Requirements
Valid Alabama driver’s license
Reliable transportation
Proof of automobile insurance commensurate with State law
Background checks to include but not limited to criminal record, drug screen
Must meet and maintain eligibility requirements to be insured by UWCA’s insurance

Knowledge & Skills

Extensive knowledge of local, State and Federal legislation and programs related to the work of the Area Agency on Aging to include the Older American’s Act as Amended.

Considerable knowledge of health and nutrition needs of older adults

Working knowledge of food service management.

Excellent organizational and leadership skills

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form and the skills to apply technical material in a manner easily comprehended by a diverse population

Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft applications and ability to learn computer applications quickly

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior center personnel, employees, service delivery agencies and the public

Ability to analyze research data and formulate plans based on that data

Proven ability to work in a team-based environment.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred (MPA, MSW, MBA, etc.)

Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible administrative, supervisory and case management experience

preferred.
