Our mission is to celebrate the communities we serve by publishing useful, positive, exciting content through our SEO/AI optimized websites, newsletters and social media. Our brands include Bham Now, Hville Blast, Montgomery UP, Mobile Bay Now and The Bama Buzz.

Our 10 year old, locally owned company has a unique blend of a fast newsroom vibe with client campaign production that funds our operation. The Director, Social Media, is responsible for overseeing the development of the highest quality social content in the state and fuel its continued engagement and expansion. This includes earned media as well as client campaigns.

Having a desire to dig into the excitement of the Greater Birmingham and the state is critical for success, as is expert knowledge and interest of social platforms.

Responsibilities:

Lead the creation of  on-brand ‘audience first’ social content that delights and informs our collective audience of 550K Greater Birminghamians. Channels currently include; IG, FB, LI, TT and YouTube. Formats include phone filmed reels, carousels, stories + microblogs and other.

Team Leadership

  • Coach, motivate, train and oversee a team of social media producers. This includes;
  • One on one coaching to uplevel skills on all aspects of social creation including ideation, research, filming, photo selection and copy writing.
  • Tapping historical performance and best industry techniques to drive strategy.
  • Increasing  team’s local knowledge on current events, historical significances and breaking news to ensure content is informed and on point.
  • Oversee client campaigns to ensure client goals are met on time and within budgets while serving real value to our audience.
  • Ensuring content follows brand style guidelines.
  • Lead the social calendar development, assign and oversee content production for breaking news, sponsored messages and evergreen guides.

Company Leadership/Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Branded Content, Director of Breaking News and CEO.
  • Present monthly metrics to leadership with thought analysis and action plans to implement continuous improvement.
  • Implement proven action plans to grow followers and increase engagement through social listening and industry best practices.
  • Oversee and create VIP client campaigns to ensure high performing content that meets the client goal while serving our audience first.
  • All administrative duties for your team including performance reviews, corrective action, recruitment and training.

Experience/Education:

  • Min 5 years’ experience directly managing and leading a team of 4-6 creators.
  • Min. 5 years’ successful social media leadership in a large scale, fast paced company role including directing/producing phone filmed reels for Instagram and TikTok.
  • Expert visual acumen + copy writing skills for consumer based social media and advertising. (Must have examples).
  • Strong consumer based writing and research skills.
  • Successful experience producing and/or overseeing client work including reels, editing with CapCUT and other.
  • Proven digital strategy development and implementing successful action plans for growth.
  • Adept at analyzing and interpreting social media metrics.
  • Comfortable using software tools including those for social management like Later, Hootsuite, HubSpot and Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, email, Monday and Canva.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, journalism, advertising, public relations or related.
