As a Meals on Wheels Driver, you’ll be the friendly face that connects seniors and neighbors across Jefferson County to nutritious meals, care, and compassion. Responsibilities
• Pack meals and load into van and/or truck
• Check meals to assure the correct number of meals are packed for each route
• Adhere to protocol for communicating client issues or emergencies
• Report any undelivered food to Kitchen Manager
• Clean and maintain kitchen and equipment (ie washing dishes, mopping floors, taking out trash)
• Report equipment or food issues to Kitchen Manager
• Maintain clean and orderly delivery vehicle
• Communicate any vehicle issues or maintenance needs to Kitchen Manager/designated team member
• Communicate route adjustments or efficiency issues to Kitchen Manager/designated team member
• Assist in meal preparation
• Demonstrate proficient use of mapping and program software
• Participate in scheduled team or other UWCA meetings and events
Other
• Other duties as assigned
• Maintain current Food Safety Certification for Jefferson County Health Department
Qualifications
Knowledge & Skills
Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must have a pleasant demeanor and customer service skills
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of clients, volunteers, and co-workers. Ability to read maps and follow directions
Education
High school education or GED
Experience
2-3 years driving experience. Must have a clean driving record.
Working Conditions
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Safely and confidently navigate various weather conditions and/or areas of Jefferson County
Must be comfortable driving van or other delivery vehicle
Other
Valid Alabama driver’s license Reliable transportation
Proof of automobile insurance commensurate with State law
Must meet and maintain eligibility requirements to be insured by UWCA’s insurance
Background checks to include but not limited to criminal record and drug screen,
Occasional overtime
