Wild Taro Removal – September 20
- When: Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 9 am to 1 pm
- Meeting Location: Hoover Sports Park East
- Day of event contact: Zachary Fitzgibbon – (205) 322-5526, ext. 1417

What to Expect:
On Saturday, September 20th, come join Cahaba River Society, Cahaba Riverkeeper and our partners for a wild taro removal along this beautiful stretch of the river.
Volunteers will meet at Hoover Sport Park East ( 2649 Old Rocky Ridge Rd Birmingham, AL 35216 ) and park at the location on the north side of the park where we will sign in, hand out tools and get removal instructions. From there, we will walk down a short trail and begin removing taro. It is reasonable to expect you could be in calf-deep water at some point, though there will be positions where this is not required. We’ll work until around noon before wrapping up to sort and weigh any litter and plant matter removed.
What to bring:
- Water (at least 1 liter)
- Sunscreen
- Sun hat
- Long sleeved shirts or garden sleeves and long pants are recommended (But wear what is most comfortable for you.)
- Close-toed shoes (required) or close-toed water shoes (optional)
- You are welcome to bring a cooler for your water, but alcohol is prohibited.
CRS will provide grabbers, bags, and gloves. There is no charge for this trip. Folks are absolutely welcome and encouraged to donate to CRS offset program costs.
