The 4th Annual Gingerbread “Jam” Housebuilding
Building gingerbread houses was a special family tradition for Susann Montgomery-Clark, her daughters Meredith and Megan Montgomery and the many friends and family members who enjoyed their gingerbread parties in their home over many years.
“This is a great family friendly holiday event” says Meredith Montgomery-Price, Megan’s sister and Executive Director of the Foundation. “It’s a way to have fun and make a difference at the same time; and carry on the tradition that our family and friends loved growing up”.
The most fun will be viewing and voting for your favorite houses through the People’s Choice Awards”. Last year, Parker High School Nutrition Class won this award with their “Home Alone replica house”. Children of all ages are invited to visit Santa, who will be on site while at the Vestavia Civic Center.”
The Gingerbread “Jam” competition is free to the public for viewing the gingerbread houses on December 13th, from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Vestavia Hills Civic Center 1090 Montgomery Hwy. Vestavia Hills Alabama 35216. To enter the contest, it’s $5 to submit a house of your own. Build and decorate the house at home, then drop it off at the Vestavia Civic Center Friday December 12 from 1:00 – 3:45 pm. Pre-made kits and cookie houses are allowed as well. To enter see details on the website. Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in children’s various age categories, and adult categories. Reserve your “lot” ahead of time to be able to display your little house: https://gingerbreadjam.swell.gives
All proceeds from the event will benefit The Megan Montgomery Foundation which has partnered with and distributed more than $363,000 in grants to high schools, colleges and non-profits across Alabama for age-appropriate healthy relationship education, to empower young adults to recognize unhealthy dating behavior and stop it BEFORE it escalates. http://www.megansfoundation.org
