Power Up B’ham

local families facing steep power bills are getting a much-needed lifeline. The Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama (CAANEAL) has announced “Power Up B’ham,” a special two-day initiative designed to provide direct electric bill assistance to eligible low-income residents through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
The event will take place on Tuesday, September 15, and Wednesday, September 16, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at 900 38th St N, Birmingham, AL 35222.
Unlike standard utility assistance programs that require advance scheduling, “Power Up B’ham” will operate strictly on a walk-in basis with no appointments necessary. CAANEAL representatives will be on-site both days ready to process applications for as many local families as possible.
Because high attendance is anticipated, organizers warn that lines may be long and advise attendees to plan for potential wait times. To ensure processing moves as quickly and smoothly as possible, applicants must bring a complete set of required original documents.
Eligibility Guidelines & Regional Assistance
“Power Up B’ham” is funded specifically for the LIHEAP Cooling Season. Individuals or households that have already received utility assistance through CAANEAL since May 2026 are ineligible for this event.
