Off-Site Tour: Joe Minter’s African Village in America

Venture beyond the Museum for a guided visit to artist Joe Minter’s African Village in America. Join Minter as he shares the vision, stories, and history behind one of Birmingham’s most remarkable artistic landmarks. Built and continually expanded over decades on the grounds surrounding his home, this expansive outdoor art environment transforms found objects into powerful sculptures that honor African American history, commemorate the Civil Rights Movement, and explore themes of memory, resilience, and community. 

Due to limited parking near African Village, guests are encouraged to use the complimentary round-trip shuttle service from the Museum.
